Change to the 55-kilometer running route due to the Julma-Ölkky cable bridge being out of use

Published: 12.06.2024

Metsähallitus has temporarily closed the Julma-Ölkky cable bridge due to damage caused by heavy snow loads during the winter.

As a result, the route for the 55-kilometer distance in the Kainuu Trail running event will undergo a slight modification, as the cable bridge crossing will be removed from the route.

The 55-kilometer running route will follow the original plan along the eastern side of Julma-Ölkky up to the cable bridge crossing point, from where the route will turn back along the same eastern canyon path towards the Julma-Ölkky aid station.

– With this small change, we can keep the 55-kilometer route nearly the same length as before the modification, says race director Jukka Liuha. We can also promise that runners will still get to enjoy the stunning scenery of Julma-Ölkky, even without crossing the cable bridge.

Apart from this, the routes of the Kainuu Trail running event will remain the same as in previous years, and no other changes are expected. For example, the 78-kilometer route that completely circles Julma-Ölkky will remain unchanged, so participants in the longest distance will still get to enjoy the entire Julma-Ölkky canyon.

The distances in the Kainuu Trail running event are 78 km, 55 km, 38 km, 21 km, and 10 km, with the 10-kilometer distance also having categories for 12-17-year-olds.

The final registration period at the regular price ends on Monday, June 17th at 23:59. After this, participants can only join if there are vacancies in specific categories.
